Work starts on safety improvements at Victoria Road in Drummoyne
26 APRIL 2016
John Sidoti MP, Member for Drummoyne announced safety improvement work will be carried out in May at the intersection of Victoria and Lyons roads in Drummoyne.
Mr Sidoti said the work would be delivered as part of the NSW Government’s Safer Road Program and includes installing additional traffic lights, signage and upgrading line marking.
“This intersection was identified for safety improvement work after an analysis of five year crash data between 1 July 2008 and 30 June 2013 showed six reported crashes involving pedestrians,” Mr Sidoti said.
“Three of the six reported crashes involved westbound vehicles on Lyons Road, turning right onto Victoria Road.
“Community comment was sought on a proposal to install a right turn red arrow to stop motorists turning from Lyons Road onto Victoria Road so pedestrians have more time to cross.
“The project also involves adjusting the line marking on the eastern side of Lyons Road to provide an additional lane, installing extra traffic lights for improved visibility and line marking.
“Following positive feedback from the community this work will be carried out in six shifts between Monday 2 and Tuesday 31 May, weather permitting.
“Work hours will be from 7am to 5pm and 9pm to 5am and changed traffic conditions will be in place for the safety of workers and road users including lane closures and reduced speed limits.
“Motorists should follow the direction of traffic control and allow extra travel time.
