Proposed Empire Bay Drive intersection upgrade
The community is invited to have a say on the proposed upgrade of the intersection of Empire Bay Drive, The Scenic Road and Cochrone Street at Kincumber.
Adam Crouch Member for Terrigal said the allocation of $1 million to continue the planning process for the upgrade of the intersection will involve replacing the existing roundabout with traffic lights, pedestrian phases and widening the road to provide additional lanes at the intersection.
“The upgrade aims to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow and travel times for the 25,000 motorists travelling along Empire Bay Drive between Kerta Road and Avoca Drive each day” said Adam Crouch.
“Work would include providing a traffic light controlled intersection with two through lanes in both directions on Empire Bay Drive and new turning lanes on Empire Bay Drive, The Scenic Road and Cochrone Street to improve the traffic flow along these roads.”
“The intersection would also have traffic light controlled pedestrian crossings on all corners which will provide an improved safe connection from the residential area to the commercial/retail sector” said Mr. Crouch.
“Cyclist and pedestrian safety will be improved with on-road cycle facilities provided on Empire Bay Drive and Cochrone Street and a shared path installed along Empire Bay Drive” said Adam Crouch.
The community can attend a drop-in session on Wednesday 11 May between 4pm and 7pm at Kincumber Library to speak with the project team, provide feedback and learn more about the project.
Feedback is invited by 5pm on Friday 27 May and will be considered when finalising the strategic design.
The local community and stakeholders will be kept informed during the planning process to help identify issues and minimise the impact of the proposed upgrade.
