Have your say: LH Ford Duplication
18 May 2016
The Member for Dubbo & Deputy Premier Troy Grant is encouraging the Dubbo community to be part of the planning process for possible corridor options for the new bridge across the Macquarie River.
The NSW Government has allocated $1 million to plan the most appropriate location for a new bridge to service Dubbo, improve freight efficiency, traffic flow and flood immunity.
“Additional capacity is required in addition to the two existing bridges which service the community – the LH Ford Bridge on the Mitchell Highway and the Serisier Bridge on the Newell Highway,” Mr Grant.
“Together the two bridges carry about 37,500 vehicles per day across six lanes of traffic.
“Emile Serisier Bridge is often closed when it is impacted by flooding. When this bridge is closed, all Newell Highway traffic is diverted along a flood detour route which includes LH Ford Bridge and local roads.
“The two-lane LH Ford Bridge doesn’t have the capacity to carry this traffic and as a result Dubbo experiences long traffic delays during floods.”
From north to south the proposed corridors are:
- Purvis Lane
- River Street
- Myall Street
- LH Ford Duplication
- Baird Street
- Tamworth Street.
Feedback on these options will, along with traffic and environmental studies, help to inform the new bridge location by late 2016.
Mr Grant said community members can provide their feedback through a survey at www.rms.nsw.gov.au/dubbobridge. To view project information or speak to a member of the project team, drop in sessions are also planned at:
- Orana Mall on Thursday 19 May between 4 and 8pm and on Wednesday 1 June between 10am and 2pm
- Dubbo Farmers Market on Saturday 21 May between 8am and 12pm
- Cyril Flood Rotunda on Friday 27 May between 10am and 2pm and on Tuesday 7 June between 10am and 2pm.
All feedback must be received by Monday 13 June and will be incorporated into a submission report which will be available for public viewing.
