Motorists encouraged to slow down on Bong Bong Road at Dapto
18 May 2016
Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra Gareth Ward has today advised local motorists to be aware of a speed change on a section of Bong Bong Road at Dapto later this month.
Mr Ward said the existing 60 km/h speed zone will be reduced to 50 km/h for almost one kilometre from 40 metres west of Station Street to 50 metres east of Parkdale Avenue.
“A speed zone review of Bong Bong Road was carried out earlier this year by Roads and Maritime Services after a request from Wollongong City Council,” he said.
“The existing speed zone has been reduced due to the level of pedestrian activity and to complement Council’s plans for a pedestrian refuge, to help create a safer environment for all road users.
“This change will be implemented from Monday 30th May and motorists should slow down and drive to the new conditions.
“New signs will be installed to inform motorists of the new speed limit.
“Members of the community can sign up at the Safer Roads NSW website to receive updates about changes to permanent speed limits in their nominated area and to have a say on speed limits,” Mr Ward concluded.
