Community invited to have a say on year round Princes Highway clearway at Heathcote
Monday 23 May
Community members are invited to provide feedback on a proposal to help manage weekend traffic flow along the Princes Highway at Heathcote by Monday 6 June.
Member for Heathcote Lee Evans said feedback is being sought on a proposal to extend the months of operation of the northbound Sunday afternoon clearway on the Princes Highway between Jennings and Heathcote roads.
“The Princes Highway is an important route connecting the Illawarra and south coast with Sydney,” Mr Evans said. “Congestion frequently peaks on Sunday afternoons as many people travel northbound towards Sydney”.
In March 2011 a clearway was installed on the Princes Highway northbound between Jennings and Heathcote roads for Sundays and public holidays between 3pm and 7pm from October through to the end of April.
Extending the clearway to operate on Sundays and public holidays between 3pm and 7pm all year round would help manage congestion for around 20,000 northbound motorists who use the major corridor on during those times”, Mr Evans said.
The Princes Highway was identified in the Sydney Clearway Strategy for investigation, which aims to maximise use of existing road space, increase traffic flow on one of Sydney’s major arterial roads and reduce travel times to get people moving faster.
It would complement other clearways in effect along the corridor including from Kirrawee to Blakehurst.
The NSW Government has committed $121 million to the Clearways strategy to ensure existing road space is maximised and delays and congestion are reduced on key corridors.
To provide feedback on the Princes Highway clearway extension by Monday 6 June call 1300 706 232, email email@example.com or write to Clearways Roads and Maritime Services, PO Box 973 Parramatta 2124.
