Road safety improvements start on Golden Highway between Beni and Merrilea
26 May 2015
Roads and Maritime Services started work last week on pavement upgrades and road safety improvement work on the Golden Highway from Beni to Merrilea.
Member for Dubbo Troy Grant said the NSW Government had allocated more than $5.5 million as part of the Golden Highway program to improve road conditions for freight vehicles and motorist safety.
“The upgrade involves widening around 10 kilometres of highway to provide two metre shoulders, a channelised right turn bay at the Durraween Lane intersection and drainage improvements,” Mr Grant said.
“Work will also be carried out to improve the remaining intersections on this stretch of road and access to private residences. Some trees may need to be cleared as part of this work to improve motorists’ visibility.
“This work will be carried out Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm and on Saturdays between 8am and 1pm while work is carried out for up to five months, weather permitting.”
Lane closures and a reduced speed limit will be in place to ensure the safety of workers and road users.
Signs and traffic control will be in place to guide motorists via contraflow throughout the work.
Roads and Maritime thanks the community for its patience while this essential upgrade is carried out.
