Preferred corridor announced for the proposed Horsley Drive upgrade

13 July 2016

Tanya Davies MP, Member for Mulgoa today announced a preferred corridor has been chosen for the proposed future upgrade of The Horsley Drive.

Tanya Davies said the upgrade would improve east-west connectivity from the Western Sydney Employment Area and the M7 Motorway to the Smithfield Wetherill Park Industrial Area.

“The NSW Government is committed to supporting growth in Western Sydney and providing key infrastructure for future commercial and residential growth areas,” Tanya Davies said.

The Horsley Drive between the M7 Motorway and Cowpasture Road provides the main access to the Smithfield Wetherill Park Industrial Area and a strategic freight link to and from the M7 Motorway.

Roads and Maritime Services has developed a preliminary concept design to widen The Horsley Drive to a four lane divided road in the future when development demand requires it. The road would incorporate a wide central median to accommodate two additional lanes, if required.

The intersections at Ferrers and Cowpasture roads would be upgraded, including traffic lights to replace the roundabout at Cowpasture Road. The Horsley Drive eastern approach at the M7 Motorway interchange and Wallgrove Road intersection would be upgraded as part of this proposal.

“The proposal would also deliver improved access to the Western Sydney Parklands and Water NSW and provide a separate off-road shared path for cyclists and pedestrians,” said Tanya Davies.

The community was invited to have its say last year with the majority of feedback supporting the proposal.

A Review of Environmental Factors (REF) and concept design will now be developed incorporating all feedback received. Residents and businesses will have a further opportunity to provide feedback during the display of the REF.
