Work continues on new heavy vehicle rest area
19 September 2016
Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra and South Coast Gareth Ward has today advised local motorists of changed traffic conditions this week as work continues on the Mount Ousley Heavy Vehicle Rest Area upgrade.
Mr Ward said that the left hand turn into Clive Bissell Drive from Mount Ousley Road will be closed to all northbound traffic from this Wednesday 21st September until the project’s completion.
“This closure is required for the safety of motorists and work vehicles as work progresses on the $8.1 million project,” he said.
Motorists wishing to access Mount Keira will be detoured via Picton Road and Mount Keira Road and can expect delays of up to five minutes. Alternatively, motorists can travel along Mount Keira Road from West Wollongong.
To prepare for the change, night work will be carried out between 8pm and 4.30am tomorrow, Tuesday 20th September.
One lane will be closed with a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h in place for the safety of workers and motorists.
Further night work will be required during October to build the new rest area access lane,” Mr Ward said.
“This work is expected to take about six weeks to complete, weather permitting, and be carried out between 8pm and 4.30am Sunday to Thursday.
“For the safety of workers and motorists, lane closures and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h will be in place during work hours. Motorists will be able to travel northbound at all times.
“Outside work hours all lanes will be open and there will be no reduced speed limits in place.
“The community will be informed of dates before work starts,” Mr Ward concluded.
