Work complete on Heathcote Road and Macarthur Drive intersection improvements
Friday, 23 September 2016
State Member for Holsworthy, Melanie Gibbons MP announced that motorists should now start to see benefits from improvements to the signalised roundabout at the intersection of Heathcote Road and Macarthur Drive, Hammondville.
Ms Gibbons said the upgrade was delivered through the NSW Government’s $246 million Pinch Point program, which aims to reduce congestion and improve travel times on Sydney’s major road corridors.
“Heathcote Road and Macarthur Drive provide access to Holsworthy train station and residential areas,” Ms Gibbons said.
“While the new entrance to Holsworthy Army Barracks improved traffic flow in the area, Roads and Maritime Services identified further improvements to the signalised roundabout.
“Work started in July to improve traffic flow through this busy intersection, which is used by more than 26,000 motorists every day.
“The traffic lights have been replaced and new medians built to allow southbound motorists travelling straight on Heathcote Road to move freely through the roundabout when the lights are in operation.
Ms Gibbons said that southbound motorists on Heathcote Road can no longer turn right from the left hand lane and block through traffic, and northbound motorists will also benefit with more frequent movements facilitated by the new traffic arrangements.
“The project is now complete after the reopening of the intersection this week.
“I would like to thank motorists and local residents for their patience throughout this upgrade process” Ms Gibbons said.
