Michael Johnsen, Member for Upper Hunter today announced that Roads and Maritime Services are upgrading the New England Highway near Milpera Drive at Muswellbrook from Sunday 20 November.
Mr Johnsen said the NSW Government provided $3.9 million for the essential work to strengthen and extend the life of the highway.
“Work includes rebuilding a 1.6 kilometres of the highway, improving line marking and installing kerbside barriers to increase motorists’ safety,” Mr Johnsen said.
“The work also includes minor drainage improvements which aim to reduce ongoing maintenance costs.
“This work will benefit the 10,000 motorists traveling along the highway at Muswellbrook daily.”
To reduce the impact to traffic, most work will be carried out Sunday to Friday between 6.30pm and 5.30am. Some work will also be carried out Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm as required.
The project is expected to take five weeks to complete, weather permitting.
Lane closures, traffic control and a temporarily reduced 40 km/h speed limit will be in place during work hours for the safety of motorists and workers.
