$2.5 Million Manilla Road upgrade nearing completion
20 MARCH 2017
Traffic is now flowing freely along Manilla Road between Tribe and Jewry Streets in Tamworth, with final touches now being applied to stage one of the upgrade.
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said the NSW Government allocated $2.5 million towards the project to improve safety and congestion.
“Manilla Road is one of Tamworth’s main thoroughfares, so to see the traffic moving so efficiently is welcome news for the community after six months of work.
“A left-turn slip lane was created on Tribe Street for traffic entering Manilla Road, while the southbound lane on Manilla Road was duplicated between Tribe and Jewry streets.
“The upgrade also involved extending the right-turn lane from Manilla Road onto Tribe Street to improve traffic flow in peak hour.”
Mr Anderson said final road surfacing between Tribe and Jewry streets will be carried out after Easter, weather permitting.
“Locals will benefit from improved journey efficiency and the good news is there’s more work planned to further ease congestion in the area.
“Design work on the next stage of the Tribe to Jewry streets upgrade is being finalised and will involve building a roundabout at the Marius Street intersection.
