Safety upgrade complete on The Escort Way at Eugowra

4 April 2017

A notorious crash black spot on The Escort Way about four kilometres north of Eugowra has received a $460,000 upgrade to improve safety.

Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester said the upgrade was funded by the Australian Government under its $500 million Black Spot Programme.

“Building better, safer roads can change lives and it can save lives. This project is a great example of how our Black Spot Programme is making a huge difference to roads throughout the nation, making them safer for all drivers,” Mr Chester said.

“The Australian Government is building for the future by delivering the biggest infrastructure investment programme in Australia's history to connect communities, support businesses and create jobs.

“I know how much local councils and local drivers appreciate the work done under the programme, and the difference such projects can make.”

Federal Member for Calare Andrew Gee said in the five years to June 2014, six people were injured in four separate crashes on The Escort Way near Norris Lane.

“Safety upgrades were prioritised for Australian Government funding due to the number and severity of injury crashes at this location,” Mr Gee said.

“This important work involved installing 420 metres of safety barrier, shoulder sealing and enlarging the distance between the edge of the roadway and dangerous obstacles.

“The beauty of the Black Spot Programme is that communities can nominate dangerous sections of roads to be fixed. It’s one of the best ways for local people to have direct input into making their local roads safer for everyone.”

The Australian Government has committed $500 million to the Black Spot Programme over five years to target known dangerous locations throughout the country.
