Safety upgrade completed on the Mid Western Highway near Cowra

Media Release – 16 May 2017

Roads and Maritime Services has completed work on a safety upgrade of the Mid Western Highway, 16 kilometres north east of Cowra, near the Westville Road intersection.

Member for Cootamundra Katrina Hodgkinson said the NSW Government provided $360,000 for the work under the NSW Safer Roads Program which aims to reduce the number and severity of crashes on this windy section of road.

“Work started in early March on the safety upgrade along an 800 metre section of highway east of Westville Road,” Katrina said.

“This included extending safety barriers, widening shoulders and removing hazards to provide motorists with an improved line of sight.

“The Mid Western Highway intersection with Westville Road was widened to improve safety for all road users and a new surface was installed to provide a smoother road with reduced ongoing maintenance costs.”

All traffic conditions and speed limits which were in place during work for the safety of motorists and workers have been reinstated.

Roads and Maritime have thanked motorists for their patience during this important road safety upgrade.
