Have your say on plans for a new lane on Kosciuszko Road
Monday, 31 July 2017
Member for Monaro John Barilaro today invited the Monaro community to have a say on the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) for the proposed new westbound lane on Kosciuszko Road between Barry Way and Alpine Way.
Mr Barilaro said the NSW Government is providing $20 million for a package of upgrades to improve traffic efficiency on Kosciuszko Road and the Monaro Highway.
“As part of this package, the plan is to build an additional westbound lane on Kosciuszko Road between Barry Way and Alpine Way to improve overtaking opportunities for travellers on this popular road,” Mr Barilaro said.
“The new overtaking lane will improve traffic flow on this key route to the snow and decrease travel time during peak snow season at Jindabyne.
“Work on the new lane is scheduled to start after the snow season this year, subject to environmental assessment and project design approval.
“Planning for additional overtaking lanes and other safety improvements is continuing.
“Kosciuszko Road is part of the key freight, commuter and recreational route from the Snowy Mountains region and I am looking forward to the safety improvements and increased travel capacity that this additional lane will allow for.” Mr Barilaro said.
The REF will be displayed at the Snowy Monaro Regional Council, Jindabyne Office – 2/1 Gippsland Street in Jindabyne and at the Snowy Region Visitor Centre at 49 Kosciuszko Road in Jindabyne until Friday 18 August. The REF can also be viewed on the project website at www.rms.nsw.gov.au/mko
Comments on the proposal can be forwarded to Project Manager Shaun Foster at Roads and Maritime Services Southern Regional Office at email@example.com or by post to PO Box 477 Wollongong NSW 2520.
