Sep 5, 2017
Parliamentary Secretary for Education Gareth Ward has today announced that safety will be improved for school students at St Mary Star of the Sea College in Wollongong with new school zone signs to be installed this month.
Mr Ward said the 40 km/h school zone signs will be installed on Smith Street near the school, to remind motorists they are entering a school zone.
“Roads and Maritime Services carried out an inspection of the school zone signage which revealed that motorists on Smith Street may not be immediately aware of the school zone for St Mary Star of the Sea College,” he said.
“Additional signs on Smith Street will provide improved visibility a safer school environment.
“The 40 km/h school zone will operate between 8am and 9.30am, and 2.30pm and 4pm on gazetted school days.
“The school zone signs are expected to be installed mid-September, weather permitting.
“Speed zones are enforceable once signs are in place and motorists should slow down for the safety of all road users,” Mr Ward said.
