Watch out, Kids About! Motorists advised of new school zone
23 January 2018
Classes are about to return for 2018, but before they do, a new school zone is being installed in Port Macquarie to improve student safety.
Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams said work started this week to install the school zone along Table Street between Gore and Hollingworth streets.
“Port Macquarie Steiner School is brand new, which is why this 40 km/h zone is being installed to enhance visibility of pedestrian movements and promote road safety,” Mrs Williams said.
“Student safety is paramount, which is why the new zone is being installed so kids can get to and from school safely.”
Work will be carried out from 7am to 5pm and should be completed by this Thursday 25 January, weather permitting.
“Work includes spraying the road surface with a 40 km/h symbol and dragons teeth and flashing lights at either end of the new school zone.
“Once operational, the school zone flashing lights will operate between 8am and 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm on gazetted school days,” Mrs Williams said.
There will be some footpath and lane closures while work is carried out, with signs and detours in place when required.
The new school zone will be operational from Monday 29 January 2018.
