Roundabout improvements on the way at Wollongong
21 March 2018
Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra Gareth Ward has today announced that the traffic flow will soon be improved at a major Wollongong intersection, with work set to start next month on a $220,000 congestion improvement project.
Mr Ward said that the NSW Government is providing the funding to upgrade the roundabout at the intersection of Campbell Street, Flinders Street and Throsby Drive.
“The intersection is one of the busiest in Wollongong’s CBD during the morning and evening peak and this work will improve journey times for all road users,” he said.
“Work will involve changing the lane configuration on Campbell Street to provide two westbound lanes on approach to the roundabout.
“The NSW Government cares about getting motorists from A to B as quickly as possible so they can spend more time doing the things they love, and this work aims to achieve this goal.
“Work will be a case of short term pain for long term gain and is expected to be carried out next month for five nights, weather permitting.
“A start of work date is yet to be set and the community will be kept informed.
“There will be temporary traffic changes in place when work is carried out, including the closure of Campbell Street in both directions between Flinders Street and Keira Street.
“Work will take place at night to reduce disruption to the community and a detour will be established,” Mr Ward concluded.
