Traffic signals light up for Kambala School, Rose Bay
5 December 2018
Member for Vaucluse, Gabrielle Upton today announced that safety will finally be improved for students, teachers and residents around Kambala School, Rose Bay with an upgrade to the traffic lights on New South Head Road, near Rawson Road.
Ms Upton said this long awaited and important work will help improve safety for all road users and pedestrians by increasing the visibility of the traffic lights, particularly for motorists heading down New South Head Road towards the city.
“Every school day local students, teachers and families need to cross New South Head Road during the busy morning and afternoon school run.
“In response to our representations, Roads and Maritime Services will be installing a new mast arm and elevating the traffic lights to make them easier to see.
“The works will involve a total reconstruction of the New South Head Road and Rawson Road intersection to improve pedestrian safety, and includes new and upgraded traffic equipment. The line and lane markings on the road will also be entirely refreshed as part of the upgrade.
Kambala School Principal Shane Hogan said "We are delighted with the decision to upgrade the traffic lights outside the School to ensure the safety of our students and appreciate the persistence of our local member, Gabrielle Upton, in championing this on our behalf."
Work is scheduled to start on Sunday 9 December and be complete by Friday 25 January, weather permitting, just in time for the start of the new school year.
Roads and Maritime Services advise that there will be temporary traffic changes during work hours to ensure the work zone is safe.
