Roads Minister visits Gerringong upgrade

Roads Minister Duncan Gay and Member for Kiama Gareth Ward today inspected the upgrade of the Princes Highway between Mount Pleasant and Toolijooa Road at Gerringong today.

Mr Gay and Mr Ward inspected the 7.5 kilometre upgrade which will provide two lanes in each direction and include two new interchanges with access to Gerringong and Gerroa. This project is the first stage of the overall upgrade of the Princes Highway between Gerringong and Bomaderry.

"Contractors Fulton Hogan started work on the upgrade in August last year and I know the community is keen to see the progress which has already been made," Mr Gay said.

"Work is progressing on the new side track at Rose Valley Road and the new haul road between the site compound and Willow Vale Road.

"Boundary fencing for properties next to the new highway has been installed to ensure the upgrade causes as little disruption as possible to nearby residents.”

Mr Ward said concrete traffic barriers and temporary traffic control signs have been installed on the Princes Highway throughout the site for the protection of motorists and workers.

"Work planned for February includes building a new sidetrack between Willowvale Road and Gerringong curves, the installation of a retaining wall north of Rose Valley Road and continuing work to install bridge supports at Toolijooa Road, Willowvale Road and Omega Lane,” he said.

"Work is expected to be completed in the first half of 2015, weather permitting," Mr Gay said.
