Prime Minister caught out misrepresenting funding about Westconnex

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has been caught out misrepresenting the funding for WestConnex, NSW Minister for Roads Duncan Gay said today.

The Prime Minister’s media release on WestConnex stated: “The Federal Government has already provided an initial $25 million – announced in last year’s Budget – to the NSW Government to undertake initial planning work and identify a process for bringing it to market.”

“This is not true – all they’ve asked for is another report,” Mr Gay said.

“The NSW Government has not received a single cent of the $25 million the Prime Minister claims she has already provided.

“This is further proof nothing Prime Minister Gillard says can be trusted.

“If Ms Gillard can’t be trusted to deliver $25 million for WestConnex, how could anyone believe she’ll ever deliver serious funds for this project.

“If Labor was serious about Western Sydney infrastructure, the Prime Minister would have matched Tony Abbott’s $1.5 billion commitment to WestConnex.

“The NSW Government has committed $1.8 billion towards the construction of WestConnex” he said.
