"Thank you" celebrations for the Bulahdelah community
Locals from across the Hunter and Mid North Coast are invited to the Community Day planned for this Saturday (22 June) to see firsthand the new Bulahdelah Bypass before it opens to traffic later next week.
Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese said the opening of the Bypass in time for the school holidays will no doubt be welcomed by the thousands of families planning to enjoy the break along the beautiful NSW coast.
“Following next week’s opening there will, for the first time, be a four-lane divided road all the way up the NSW coast from the F3 to the Port Macquarie turn-off, a distance of some 220 kilometres,” said Mr Albanese.
“That will mean safer, quicker journeys for regular users and holiday-makers alike.”
Construction of the new 8.6 kilometre Bulahdelah Bypass is part of the ongoing upgrade and full duplication of the Pacific Highway, a massive nation building project being jointly funded by the Federal ($7.9 billion) and NSW ($2.5 billion) governments.
NSW Minister for Roads and Ports Duncan Gay said Sunday’s celebrations will also mark the start of a new era for Bulahdelah.
“The new Bypass set to take over 3,000 trucks a day off its local streets and help transform the town into an even better place to live, work and raise a family,” said Mr Gay.
“I encourage people to attend the Community Day at Alum Mountain Park, a local historical recreational space upgraded as part of the construction of the new Bypass. The Park now includes new or improved playground equipment, walking tracks, toilets, electric barbeques, car park facilities, and signs to local mining and Aboriginal heritage sites.”
Beginning at 10am and running until 2pm, the Community Day will feature bus tours, local music, a sausage sizzle and children’s entertainment. Members of the project team will also be on hand to answer people’s questions.
Regular free shuttle buses will run to and from the event, picking up and dropping off at the Bulahdelah Pool and Tourist Information Centre from 9.45am.
