Federal Labor shortchanges Pacific Highway of $4.62 billion
NSW Nationals Upper House Leader and Roads Minister Duncan Gay today urged North Coast communities to throw their support behind Tony Abbott and Warren Truss who will complete the full duplication of the Pacific Highway about 7 years before Federal Labor.
Minister Gay said the Federal Coalition’s commitment to restore the 80:20 funding split for the full duplication of the Pacific Highway represents a 60 per cent increase in funding compared to Federal Labor’s current 20:20 split.
“On September 7 there is a clear choice: Tony Abbott and Warren Truss will deliver the full duplication of the Pacific Highway from Hexham to the Queensland border much quicker than Kevin Rudd and Anthony Albanese,” Minister Gay said.
Federal Labor’s funding ratio contribution has nosedived from 80:20 to now only 20:20, equating to a massive reduction in funding of $4.62 billion.
“Now a conservative government is in power in NSW, Kevin Rudd and Anthony Albanese have turned off the funding tap for the full duplication of the Pacific Highway.
“Meanwhile, the NSW Coalition has committed to its 20 per cent share – or $1.54 billion –including an allocation in the 2013-14 State Budget of $494 million,” Minister Gay said.
Minister Gay said Kevin Rudd was prepared to waste almost $2.5 billion on his disastrous home insulation scheme, but not prepared to provide an additional $4.62 billion to help complete the full duplication of the Pacific Highway.
“Federal Labor’s $4.62 billion funding shortfall means vital upgrades to the 155 kilometre stretch of highway between Woolgoolga to Ballina – including proposed bypasses of Grafton, Ulmarra, Tyndale, Woodburn, Broadwater and Wardell – can’t be progressed in the next 7 years unless Tony Abbott and Warren Truss are elected.
“If you want the Pacific Highway duplication completed there is only one option, give Federal Labor their marching orders and let the Coalition get the job done,” Minister Gay said.
