Fast tracking roads in Western Sydney: upgrade milestones on Schofields Road and Richmond Road
Minister for Roads and Freight Duncan Gay today announced the NSW Government’s $65 million Stage One upgrade of Schofield’s Road in Sydney’s north west has now opened to traffic.
Minister Gay toured Schofields Road with local members Kevin Conolly (Riverstone), Ray Williams (Hawkesbury) and Bart Bassett (Londonderry).
“This is one of several key arterial roads through the housing and employment Growth Centre of North West Sydney where we have fast tracked construction,” Mr Gay said.
“I’m delighted motorists can now drive on a wider, safer, Schofields Road between Windsor Road and Tallawong Road at Rouse Hill.
“This upgrade is about improving travel time for all road users between the Rouse Hill and Marsden Park town centres, Schofields railway station and future North West Rail Link stations.
“Stage Two of work on Schofields Road has been fast-tracked and will start next month between Tallawong and Veron roads, with the $135 million funding commitment including $70 million from the Housing Acceleration Fund. ”Stage Two work is expected to be completed by early 2017 and the NSW Government has provided $500,000 this financial year to continue planning the third and final stage.
“I was also delighted to see work is almost complete on another key North West Growth Centre road, stage one of the $46 million Richmond Road upgrade.
“Upgrade work for this stage between Bells Creek and Townson Road at Marsden Park was fast tracked in February 2012 and it is now expected to open to traffic in the next few weeks.
“The NSW Government has also brought forward stage two and three which is a 2.9km upgrade between Townson Road and 900 metres north of Garfield Road West through a $96 million commitment from the Housing Acceleration Fund.
“The work will start next month and is expected to be complete by end 2016.
“Across Western Sydney we have construction well underway on key road upgrades, this is just a snapshot of the activity that’s a result of record investment of more than $20 billion in roads by the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government,” Minister Gay said.
