Wentworth Falls East work continues
5 September 2011
“Traffic has been moved to the new westbound section of the upgrade from Dalrymple Avenue East to Dalrymple Avenue West to allow work to start on the eastbound section of the upgrade,” a Roads and Traffic Authority spokesperson said.
“This is a big step towards upgrading this important section of road to four lanes and work is rapidly progressing.
“As part of the next stage to build new eastbound lanes, a 170 metre retaining wall will be built adjacent to the highway and east of the Stockyard car park in Station Street.
“To allow site access, six parking spaces have been temporarily closed in the Stockyard car park for about six months, weather permitting.
“The upgrade of the Great Western Highway in the Blue Mountains involves widening the highway to four lanes between Emu Plains and Katoomba.
“When completed, this upgrade will benefit the communities of the Blue Mountains and more than 23,000 motorists who use this route every day.
“Work on the widening of the highway to four lanes at Wentworth Falls from Tablelands Road to Station Street started in June 2009 and is expected to be completed by mid 2012,” the spokesperson said.
