Boaters: Take Care in Bate Bay this Saturday
23 September 2011
Skippers heading out in the Bate Bay area on Saturday will need to keep clear of waters marked by buoys which NSW Maritime has granted exclusive use for the Cronulla Rip ‘n’ Ride Freestyle Jet Ski Competition.
NSW Maritime Acting Operations Manager Botany Bay/ Port Hacking Rod McDonagh said between 7am and 5pm on Saturday an exclusive use area would apply for safety reasons to a section of the navigable waters of Bate Bay, near Wanda Beach.
“Off limits will be an area 150m north of the Wanda Beach Surf Lifesaving Club House to 450m north of the Wanda Beach Surf Club, and seaward from these points to approximately 100m offshore,” Mr McDonagh said.
“The area will be closed to all vessels not participating in the Cronulla Rip ‘n’ Ride.”
Mr McDonagh said the area would be marked by buoys marking the event course and monitored by control vessels for safety reasons.
“No vessels are permitted to enter the exclusive use area unless authorised by event organisers or a NSW Maritime Boating Safety Officer or Police Officer.”
