New England Highway Rix Creek maintenance
28 November 2011
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) this week started maintenance on the New England Highway near Rixs Creek.
An RMS spokesperson said the $900,000 project is jointly funded by the NSW and Federal governments.
“This project involves rebuilding a 600 metre section of the New England Highway 300 metres either side of the Rixs Creek Mine Haul Road overbridge,” the spokesperson said.
“The work will be completed in stages at night to minimise potential disruptions to motorists.
“Work will be carried out on weekdays and Sundays between 7.30pm and 4.30am the next morning, weather permitting. One lane will be available for traffic, with traffic control in place at all times.
“This project will improve road safety and provide a smoother road surface for all motorists, resulting in reduced ongoing maintenance costs.
“Work is expected to be completed in December 2011, weather permitting.
“There will be no change to access to the Rixs Creek rest area while work is carried out,” the spokesperson said.
Motorists may experience minor delays while work is carried out and every effort will be made to minimise noise.
RMS thanks motorists for their patience while this important work is being carried out.
