Call for Aboriginal consultation for the Camden Valley Upgrade
30 January 2011
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) is seeking Aboriginal input into the upgrade of Camden Valley Way between Cowpasture Road at Horningsea Park and Narellan Road at Narellan.
“RMS is inviting Aboriginal people and groups with cultural knowledge relevant to identifying the significance of Aboriginal objects and places around the project to register for consultation. The information provided will be used to develop a cultural heritage assessment,” an RMS spokesperson said.
The assessment may result in RMS applying for an Aboriginal heritage impact permit or consent under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974 to help assess the impact of the project under the Environmental Planning Assessment Act 1979.
“The Camden Valley Way upgrade will provide additional road capacity to meet the needs of the South West Growth Centre, linking it to Camden, Liverpool, the M7 and the M5,” the spokesperson said.
“Work to build the upgrade is expected to start later this year, subject to community consultation and funding.”
Registrations from Aboriginal groups or people wishing to be consulted must be received by Friday 10 February and submitted in writing to Barry Gunther, RMS Aboriginal Cultural and Heritage Advisor, PO Box 973, Parramatta CBD NSW 2124. For more information phone 02 8849 2006.
