Plan ahead this weekend for major work on M2
8 February 2012
Motorists are reminded to plan ahead and expect delays this weekend on the Hills M2 Motorway, with major work being carried out for three consecutive weekends.
“As part of the M2 Motorway widening project, major work to remove the Beecroft Road bus ramps will take place during three consecutive weekends, which will require extensive lane and ramp closures,” an RMS spokesperson said.
“As a result, contra flow will be in place with a reduced speed limit which will delay journeys along the motorway during the work.
“Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and if possible, take an alternative route.”
The work will be carried out from 8pm Friday to 5am Monday from Friday 10 February for three consecutive weekends. In the event of wet weather a further weekend of work may be needed from Friday 2 March to Monday 5 March.
The westbound Beecroft Road off ramp will be closed for the entire first weekend of work.
Several M2 on ramps will be closed for each weekend of work between 8am and 7pm on Saturday and Sunday:
- Citybound Pennant Hills Road on ramp
- Citybound Beecroft Road on ramp
- Westbound Herring Road on ramp
- Westbound Lane Cove Road on ramp
These ramp closures will help ensure the traffic flow on the M2 is maintained while contra flow is in place.
The spokesperson said maps and detour information was available online.
“To ensure motorists can get around Sydney and plan their journeys, there are maps and detour information available on the RMS and LiveTraffic websites,” the spokesperson said.
“Suggested alternative routes include Epping, Beecroft, Carlingford and Pennant Hills roads and special clearways will be in place on these routes on Saturday and Sunday from 6am to 7pm during the work.
“Motorists should check signs before parking on any of these roads.”
Anyone heading to events at Sydney Olympic Park via the M2 during the weekend work is advised to plan ahead and catch public transport. Major events include the St George
Illawarra v Rabbitohs NRL match on 18 February and Soundwave on 26 February.
The Hills M2 Upgrade includes widening the motorway between Windsor Road, Baulkham Hills, and Lane Cove Road, North Ryde, as well as four new ramps to provide better links between the motorway and growing residential and business areas.
The project is being funded by Hills Motorway Ltd and the M2 concession will be extended by four years, with a one-off toll increase of 7.7 per cent once the work is completed
