Hunter River: Hexham Bridge Work
21 February 2012
Roads and Maritime Services has begun work on the Hexham Bridge in the Hunter River which will at times affect navigation below and surrounding the bridge.
Maritime Services Regional Manager Hunter/ Inland Sonia McKay said the work on the bridge was scheduled to continue until the end of April.
“During this time, up to three spans of the bridge may be closed to marine traffic at any one time,” Ms McKay said.
“Skippers should look out for ‘channel blocked’ lights and shapes attached to vessels engaged in the construction works.”
“Additionally, navigable spans under the bridge – including the lifting span – may have lesser clearance from time to time than may be otherwise be published or displayed.”
Ms McKay said vessels are required to maintain a safe distance and speed from the works and operators are reminded that the production of wash which impacts unreasonably on the works is an offence.
