Sydney Harbour Bridge celebrates 80 year anniversary
2 March 2012
Sydney’s iconic Harbour Bridge turns 80 next month and members of the community with a special link to the structure are being encouraged to share their stories.
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) has set up a special website for people to share stories about their links with the Bridge ahead of the 80 year anniversary celebrations on 18 March.
“The old dame turns 80 on 19 March and on the day before, we’ll have a community day at Bradfield Park to celebrate the milestone,” an RMS spokesperson said.
“All Sydneysiders are invited to join in the community day from 9.30am to 2pm, with a variety of entertainment, historic displays, presentations and big band music.
“The event coincides with Seniors Week so we encourage all of our older community members to pack a picnic and come along to join in all the fun.”
Activities on the day will include:
- Morning tea for seniors
- Vintage fashion shows
- Mobile big band
- Vintage car display
- History display
- Souvenir items
- Family activities
- Face painting
- Food and drink stalls.
