Roads and Maritime Services has granted an exclusive use aquatic licence for the safe staging of a water ski race this weekend) on the Murray River.

Maritime Regional Manager Murray/ Inland Scott Kidd said boaters should keep clear of the Murray River, on Saturday:

  • 2pm to 5pm between the 888km River Marker, 1 kilometre downstream of the Mildura District Ski Club and the 904km River Marker at Psyche Bend.

On Sunday:

  • 8am to 5pm between the 888km River Marker, 1 kilometre downstream of the Mildura District Ski Club and the 938km River Marker at Wickett’s Point.

“This area will be used exclusively for the safe staging of a water ski race organised by Mildura District Ski Club,” Mr Kidd said.

“For safety reasons, skippers should keep clear of this area as it will be restricted for the event and patrolled by control vessels.”

“At the end of the event, a control vessel displaying a green flag bearing the words ‘race finish’ will indicate the re-opening of the river.”

Mr Kidd said unauthorised vessels would not be permitted to enter the exclusive use area unless authorised by event organisers, a Maritime Boating Safety Officer or a Police Officer.
