Prince Edward Park bridge repair works

15 June 2012

Skippers are advised the waters around the northern span of Prince Edward Park foot bridge over the Woronora River will be closed to navigation from 18 June for bridge maintenance.

Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) Operations Manager Botany Bay/Port Hacking Drew Jones said the works by Sutherland Shire Council will involve the installation of temporary bridge support structures and new replacement steel components as well as the removal of corroded steel work.

“Skippers will be able to navigate through the southern and middle spans while work is being carried out,” Mr Jones said.

“The closed northern span will display the appropriate day shapes and navigation lights to indicate the blocked channel.

“Skippers are advised to exercise extreme caution when navigating near the works, to slow down and keep wash to a minimum.”

The navigation channel upstream and downstream will be marked by lit port and starboard aqua marks.

The closed span will be marked upstream and downstream by lit yellow aqua marks displaying ‘vessels prohibited’ and yellow flashing lights.

The works are expected to be completed by the end of August.
