Speed limit changes for Edderton Road
5 July 2012
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) is advising motorists of a speed limit change on Edderton Road at Muswellbrook in the next two weeks.
An RMS spokesperson said RMS carried out a review of this 15 kilometre length of road after requests from Muswellbrook Council and local residents.
“The review was carried out in accordance with the NSW Speed Zone Guidelines and assessed a number of factors including road environment, traffic characteristics and crash data,” the spokesperson said.
“As a result of the review a six kilometre section of the existing 100km/h speed limit will be reduced to 80km/h from three kilometres south of Denman Road.
“This section of Edderton Road has a higher crash rate and more bends than the rest of the road.
“The speed limit reduction aims to reduce the number of crashes and improve road safety for all road users.
“Motorists are reminded to drive carefully and pay extra attention during the transition period,” the spokesperson said.
RMS expects the new speed limit signs to be installed from 12 July, weather permitting.
Members of the community can sign up at the Safer Roads NSW website to receive updates about changes to permanent speed limits in their nominated area and have their say on speed limits.
