Weekend closure of George Booth Drive near John Renshaw Drive rescheduled
27 July 2012
The scheduled weekend closure of George Booth Drive needed as part of the next stage of work to build the Buchanan interchange for the Hunter Expressway has been rescheduled.
“Recent wet weather has delayed the completion of work needed before changes to traffic arrangements at the site of the Buchanan interchange can be carried out,” a Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said.
“As a result the weekend closure of George Booth Drive near John Renshaw Drive from Friday 10 August has been rescheduled.
“Motorists are advised George Booth Drive will close near John Renshaw Drive from 7pm on Friday 17 August until 5am on Monday 20 August. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained.
“Traffic on John Renshaw Drive and Buchanan Road will be moved onto the new alignments during the closure.
“John Renshaw Drive and Buchanan Road will remain open to traffic however short delays may be experienced,” the spokesperson said.
If wet weather prevents the work from going ahead the closure will be rescheduled and the community will be notified if there is a change in dates.
RMS and its Hunter Expressway partners would like to thank residents, business owners and motorists for their patience during work.
A map detailing alternative routes around the intersection will be available on the project website and detours will be clearly signposted.
Motorists are advised to plan their journey, allow extra travel time and obey all signs.
The $1.7 billion Hunter Expressway project is jointly funded, with the Federal Government providing $1.5 billion and the NSW Government contributing up to $200 million.
