Speed limit change in Armidale
6 August 2012
Speed limit changes will be implemented on Orchardview and Cookes roads at Armidale in the next week, weather permitting.
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) has carried out a review as part of the NSW audit of speed zones.
“The review assessed a number of factors including road environment, traffic characteristics and crash data,” a RMS spokesperson said.
“Speed reductions from 100km/h to 80km/h will be installed on Cookes Road from 350 metres west to 1.27 kilometres east of Orchardview Road and on Orchardview Road from the Cookes Road intersection to 30 metres east of Elowera Road.
“The changes will provide a more consistent approach to speed zoning along the road and better reflect the road conditions.
“The changes will also provide road safety benefits to residents and road users,” the spokesperson said.
Warning signs will be in place to advise motorists of the changes and will remain for at least a week after the new speed limit signs have been installed.
Members of the community can sign up at the Safer Roads NSW website to receive updates about changes to permanent speed limits in their nominated area and have their say on speed limits.
