Work Starting for new ferry at Lawrence
17 August 2012
Work will start next week to build a new ramp for the Bluff Point ferry at Lawrence.
The work will involve rebuilding the road and instillation of a new ferry ramp.
The road work will be carried out on Rutland Road in Lawrence and Lawrence Road at Woodford Island from Monday 20 August.
The new ramp is expected to be completed by December 2012, weather permitting.
Work will be carried out on weekdays from 7am to 6pm and Saturdays from 7am to 1pm.
One lane will be closed at times and short delays can be expected for traffic and ferry waiting queues.
A reduced speed limit and traffic controllers will be in place during the work.
Motorists are advised to plan their journey, allow extra travel time and obey all signs.
An RMS spokesperson said the new ferry is great news for the Lawrence community as the planned 24 car ferry will be bigger and will improve the efficiency of the Lawrence crossing.
“The ferry is currently being used in Ulmarra while the existing Ulmarra ferry has its scheduled three-yearly major maintenance work carried out at the Ashby dry dock,” the spokesperson said.
