Have your say on Sydney Harbour Bridge Southern Toll Plaza precinct upgrade
5 November 2012
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) is inviting community feedback on the review of environmental factors (REF) for the Sydney Harbour Bridge Southern Toll Plaza precinct upgrade.
“RMS proposes to realign and resurface the traffic lanes on the southern approaches to the Sydney Harbour Bridge and reconfigure access to the northern Sydney CBD,” an RMS spokesperson said.
“The REF assesses the proposal and its potential environmental impacts.
“The upgrade would involve removing the toll booths and other road safety hazards in the southern toll plaza precinct to simplify traffic movements to the Western Distributor, the northern Sydney CBD and city centre.
“Improving traffic access to the CBD would also enable continuation of the bus lane from the Sydney Harbour Bridge to York Street.
“RMS modelling forecasts travel time benefits for both general traffic and bus users and improved reliability for bus users.
“Proposed bus readiness bays would provide space for buses approaching York Street to prepare for the evening peak services from the northern Sydney CBD.
“The community can view the REF at www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roadprojects and at:
- North Sydney Council Chambers, 200 Miller Street, North Sydney, Monday – Friday (9am-5pm).
- City of Sydney Council – One Stop Shop, Level 1, 456 Kent Street, Sydney Monday-Friday (8am-6pm).
- Roads and Maritime Services, Level 9, 101 Miller Street, North Sydney, Monday- Friday (8am-5pm).
All comments on the REF should be received by Friday 30 November 2012.
RMS will also upgrade the tolling equipment and relocate it from the existing toll booths on the northern and southern approaches to the Sydney Harbour Bridge to North Sydney.
New state of the art equipment will be fixed to existing electronic variable speed limit sign structures south of the High Street overpass. Only traffic heading southbound will continue to be tolled.
