Option C the recommended preferred option for Grafton Bridge
19 December 2012
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) Pacific Highway General Manager, Bob Higgins today announced RMS has identified option C as the recommended preferred option for the additional crossing of the Clarence River at Grafton.
“Option C crosses the river immediately downstream of the existing Grafton Bridge and connects the junction of the Pacific and Gwydir highways at South Grafton with Pound Street at Grafton,” Mr Higgins said.
“Through extensive investigations and community engagement we have reached the point where we have a recommended preferred option for community comment before a final decision on a preferred route is made.”
“Option C has been identified as the recommended preferred option as it provides the most appropriate balance between functional, social, environmental, engineering and cost factors.
“Getting to this point is a major milestone for the project.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank the community for their contributions and involvement and encourage them to continue to provide feedback.
“More community comment will be considered before a final decision is made on the preferred option early next year.
“Community feedback on the recommended preferred option is invited by 18 February 2013.”
The recommended preferred option is available to view on the RMS website.
Staffed displays will be available for the community to view option C and provide feedback on Thursday 31 January and Thursday 7 February from 9am to 4pm at Grafton shopping world.
Displays will also be available to view at various locations detailed on the project website. The displays will be available until 18 February next year to allow for those who are away during the school holidays to still contribute.
Property owners potentially directly affected by the recommended preferred option will be contacted directly.
