Freight company fined for speed limiter tampering

Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) today announced a freight company has been found guilty of tampering with a heavy vehicle speed limiter and fined $8000.
“In July 2012 Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) Inspectors discovered the company had been operating a heavy vehicle with a speed limiter which had been tampered with,” Director of Customer and Compliance Peter Wells said.
“Charges were filed against the operator who was ordered to appear in Goulburn Local Court on Friday 18 January.
“The heavy vehicle operator was found guilty of the offence and a conviction was recorded. The company was ordered to pay court and professional costs as well as the fine.
“The maximum penalty for a company found to be operating a heavy vehicle with a tampered speed limiter is $16,500 for each offence.
