New traffic lights to be switched on to improve safety on Botany Road
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) will switch on the newly installed set of traffic lights on Wednesday 24 January, 2013 on Botany Road at Mascot to improve road safety.
“RMS started work in January to install traffic lights with pedestrian facilities at the intersection of Botany Road and High Street at Mascot to improve safety for those crossing the busy road,” an RMS spokesperson said.
“Work involved concreting, installing traffic signal posts, new pram ramps, connecting the new crossings, cutting the existing median, removing a small section of pedestrian fencing, line making, footpath restoration and installing new signs.
“The installation of traffic lights resulted in changes to parking spots and RMS reminds motorists ‘No Stopping’ signs are now installed near the crossing on both Botany Road and High Street.
“The new traffic lights aim to bring improved road safety to pedestrians crossing Botany Road and motorists travelling through Mascot.
“RMS thanks motorists and local businesses for their patience while work was carried out,” the spokesperson said.
