Asbestos under Great Western Highway at Woodford to be removed
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) will carry out work to remove asbestos found in pipes about 60cm under the Great Western Highway.
“On 27 June, RMS contractors found a small amount of asbestos in disused Sydney Water pipes and Telstra conduits under the eastbound section of the highway between Arthur and Glen streets at Woodford,” an RMS spokesperson said.
“The asbestos was found during underground utility investigations being carried out for the Great Western Highway upgrade.
“The area was immediately sealed and removal work is expected to start on Monday 8 July between 10am and 5pm for about three weeks, weather permitting.
“Residents should be aware the asbestos will not present a danger and will be removed by asbestos specialists on behalf of RMS.
“Partial lane closures will be required to create a safe work space and minor traffic delays are expected.
“RMS will advise residents by letter of work hours,” the spokesperson said.
