Motorists advised of width restrictions for Carrathool Bridge strengthening work
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) is advising motorists of width restrictions on the Carrathool Bridge over the Murrumbidgee River at Carrathool for work to strengthen the bridge.
An RMS spokesperson said the NSW Government provided $3 million for work on this State Heritage-listed structure this financial year under the Bridges for the Bush program.
“Work to strengthen and widen the bridge will benefit the local community to allow it to be used by wide agricultural equipment,” the spokesperson said.
“It will also improve ride quality, reduce future maintenance costs and the risk of damage to the bridge by heavy vehicles.
“A width restriction of 3.2 metres will be in place until mid October, weather permitting.
“A 20km/h speed limit will apply on the bridge at all times and motorists may experience delays of up to 20 minutes.
“Temporary traffic lights will be in place to guide traffic across the bridge. Motorists are encouraged to drive with caution and follow all signs.
“Motorists are also advised there will be a full bridge closure from Monday 29 July to Friday 2 August, weather permitting.
“The bridge will be closed from 9.30am to 5pm except for a one hour from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.
“Further closures are planned for August and the community will be informed once dates for these are finalised.
“Motorists are advised to plan their journey, allow extra travel time and obey all signs,” the spokesperson said.
