Lights switched on at Warilla

Illawarra motorists and pedestrians can expect shorter queue times and a safer journey with the installation of new traffic lights and pedestrian crossings at the intersection of Shellharbour Road and Sunset Avenue at Warilla.

"The new lights which have been switched on today will help traffic to flow more smoothly and reduce the risk of crashes by limiting queuing turning in and out of Sunset Avenue," a Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) spokesperson said.

"The new traffic lights will be coordinated with the existing traffic lights on Shellharbour Road to maximise traffic flow.

"Safety for pedestrians has been significantly improved with crossings installed on all approaches to Shellharbour Road and across Sunset Avenue.

“RMS will monitor traffic flow at the new lights to ensure they are operating as effectively as possible.

"The work is part of RMS commitment to improving traffic congestion and reducing delays for motorists in the Illawarra," the spokesperson said.

RMS thanks the community for their patience while this important work was carried out.
