Boaters alerted to exclusion zones for ski races on Hawkesbury River
19 August 2013
Boaters should keep clear of an area of the Hawkesbury River this weekend as Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) has granted an exclusive use aquatic licence for the safe staging of waterski races.
The exclusion zone applies from Governor Phillip Park, Windsor to Sackville on Saturday 24 August and from Governor Phillip Park, Windsor to Wiseman’s Ferry on Sunday 25 August from 9am to 4pm.
This area will be used exclusively for the safe staging of a ski race organised by Ski Racing NSW.
To ensure the safety of competitors and support vessels, the Sackville Ferry service will be suspended temporarily on Sunday 25 August from 9am to 11am and from 12pm to 2pm while the races are carried out. Minor delays are expected.
Signs and diversions will be in place to advise motorists about ferry closures and direct traffic.
The exclusion zones will be monitored by control vessels at both ends and skippers will be advised of the location of a transit zone during the event.
For safety reasons, skippers should avoid this area as it will be closed for the event.
Vessels not involved in event should not enter the exclusion zone unless authorised by a boating safety officer or a police officer.
Boaters and motorists are reminded to obey all signs and to follow the directions of traffic controllers.
