Changes to speed limit at Newrybar
12 September 2013
Speed limit changes to improve safety for motorists on The Old Pacific Highway and Brooklet Road at Newrybar will start within the next fortnight, weather permitting.
“The changes to the speed limit resulted from a speed zone review carried out in accordance with the NSW Speed Zoning Guidelines and in consultation with local council,” a Roads and Maritime spokesperson said.
“The 60km/h speed limit in Newrybar will be reduced to 50km/h on the Old Pacific Highway and Brooklet Road, from Old Pacific Highway to 720m west of Old Pacific Highway.
“The review assessed a number of factors including road environment, traffic characteristics and crash data.
“This change applies the 50km/h urban speed limit in accordance with NSW speed zoning guidelines. This is an urban area with numerous driveways and kerbside parking.
“Warning signs to alert motorists of the speed limit changes will be in place when the new speed limit signs are installed by Ballina Shire Council,” a Roads and Maritime spokesperson said.
These warning signs will remain in place for at least a week after the new speed limit signs have been installed.
