Herons Creek to Stills Road interchange opening

Motorists will benefit from improved safety and access to the Pacific Highway with the opening of the new Bago Road interchange tomorrow.

The interchange will open in time for school holidays providing a safe entry and exit point for the Pacific Highway and surrounding local roads.

“The new Bago Road interchange is an important step to complete the jointly funded $60 million Herons Creek to Stills Road upgrade,” a Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said.

“The 3.5 kilometre upgrade links Bago Road, Burrawan Forest Drive, Bobs Creek Road, Herons Creek and local properties to the new interchange.

“It also provides a safe access to Herons Creek School through the Bago Road interchange and Ron Banks Road.

“The left turn out of and right turn into Herons Creek Road from the Pacific Highway will permanently close on Monday 23 September.

“This means southbound motorists will no longer cross two lanes of high speed traffic to access Herons Creek and local traffic will access the Pacific Highway through the new Bago Road interchange.

“A total of seven intersections with the Pacific Highway will be closed as part of this project to improve safety, including this one at Herons Creek Road.

“Once the interchange is open, finishing work will continue on local roads and the highway.

“One highway lane in each direction will remain closed to enable crews to finish final work which is expected to be completed in October, weather permitting,” a Roads and Maritime spokesperson said.
