Mona Vale Road Tragedy

The crash on Mona Vale Road this afternoon was a tragedy.

Deepest sympathies are extended to the family and friends who lost loved ones.

NSW Police will complete an investigation into the cause of the crash and prepare a statement for the Coroner.

Roads and Maritime will await any recommendations from that report.

In the 17 years to September 30 there have been three fatal crashes on Mona Vale Road from the intersection with Powder Works Rd to the Pittwater Road intersection with Barrenjoey Road.

On 5 June 1998 there were two fatalities when a truck crashed into a house at Emma Street, which led to road works being completed around Emma Street.

On 12 April 2003 there were two fatalities when a motorist lost control in rain near Ingleside Road and collided with the embankment while carrying two passengers in the boot of the vehicle. This led to changes to legislation involving novice motorists carrying passengers in cargo areas.

On 12 September 2011 there was one fatality after two cars collided at the Bungan Road T junction with Mona Vale Road.

In August this year the NSW Government announced the preferred option for the upgrade of Mona Vale Road from Terrey Hills to Ingleside.
