Speed limit changes in Taree

Motorists are encouraged to slow down on sections of River and Old Punt roads at Taree with speed limit changes due to be implemented in the next fortnight, weather permitting.

Roads and Maritime Services carried out a review of the speed limit on both roads in response to community feedback.

The review assessed a number of factors along the roads including pedestrian activity, road environment, traffic characteristics and crash data,” a Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said.

The existing 60km/h speed limits will be reduced to 50km/h along River Road from one kilometre west of Old Punt Road to Glenthorne Road and along Old Punt Road from Manning River Drive to River Road.

The changes are being made as these are urban areas most suited to 50km/h.

"Members of the community can sign up at the Safer Roads NSW website to receive updates about changes to permanent speed limits in their nominated area and have their say on speed limits,” a spokesperson said.
