Woolgoolga bypass to open soon

The Sapphire to Woolgoolga Pacific Highway upgrade is being progressively opened to traffic, with the 10km Woolgoolga bypass section nearing completion.

A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the overall upgrade project was progressing as a result of drier weather in the past four months.

“An opening date for the Woolgoolga bypass will be announced soon,” the spokesperson said.

“The 10 kilometre dual-carriageway bypass deviates from the existing highway near Graham Drive north at South Woolgoolga, passes to the west of Woolgoolga and rejoins the Pacific Highway near Arrawarra Beach Road at Arrawarra.

“The Woolgoolga bypass is a key part of the jointly funded $850 million Sapphire to Woolgoolga upgrade.

“Part of the southern interchange of the Woolgoolga bypass will open to local traffic on Saturday 23 November.

“The Graham Drive (north) overpass bridge and approaches which form part of the southern interchange will be open to local traffic about 10pm on Saturday, weather permitting.

“Delays of up to 15 minutes may be experienced while the traffic changes are put in place.

“Motorists are also advised of changed traffic conditions before the major switch is carried out.

“From 6am on Saturday the existing highway intersection with Graham Drive (north) will be closed.  Access to Sandy Beach will be temporarily diverted through the intersection of Graham Drive (south).

“Traffic management and electronic signs will be in place to advise motorists of the changes,” the spokesperson said.

The southern interchange of the Woolgoolga bypass is an important link for local communities and will provide greatly improved access to the Pacific Highway for local residents.

The 25 kilometre Sapphire to Woolgoolga Pacific Highway upgrade starts near Sapphire, immediately north of Coffs Harbour and extends to Arrawarra, north of Woolgoolga.
