20 December 2013
Changed traffic conditions for safety work on M1 Princes Motorway
Changed traffic conditions will be in place for from Sunday 19 January on the M1 Princes Motorway at the northbound intersection of Picton Road.
Roads and Maritime will carry out work for eight months to remove the existing T-intersection and improve the left turn from Picton Road on the M1 Princes Motorway.
A new 700 metre northbound acceleration lane and wider sealed shoulders will be installed to allow more time for vehicles to reach the speed limit before merging with other traffic and be able to decelerate safely.
Safety and traffic flow is expected to be improved as heavy vehicles are separated from light traffic.
Road shoulders will also be widened as part of the work.
From 8pm on Tuesday 28 January the northbound on-load ramp from Picton Road will close, with the ramp to remain closed for the duration of the project.
Light vehicles travelling north on the M1 will be detoured via Mount Mount Keira Road and Clive Bissel Drive and heavy vehicles will need to use the Hume Highway or Appin Road as an alternative route.
A reduced speed limit of 80km/h will be in place on the M1 for the duration of the work to ensure a safe work space.
Night closures on the M1 will be in place in January between 8pm and 5am from the Picton Road interchange and Bulli tops to prepare the site for major building work.
Southbound closures will be in place from Sunday 19 to Wednesday 22 January.
Full northbound closures are planned from Tuesday 28 January until Thursday 30 January and then again from Sunday 2 February to Tuesday 4 February.
During night closures, light vehicles will be redirected via Bulli Pass and heavy vehicles should use Picton Road.
Motorists are advised to plan their journey, allow extra travel time and follow all signs.
Wet weather may change dates and times.
